Warts and Verrucas: Text

Pre-treatment information

You can follow this regime if you have been diagnosed with a viral wart or verruca.

We recommend first buying a salicylic acid wart and verruca treatment from a pharmacy. The higher strength ones work better. We also have stocks of Pickles Ointment at the clinic, which contains 50% salicylic acid. The salicylic acid dissolves hard and dead skin which sits on top of the wart. Be sure to protect the surrounding skin with some vaseline.

Pare down the softened skin when you can with a sharp blade or pumice stone. After two weeks of softening the wart, you should have a freeze treatment at the clinic.

After the freeze treatment, allow the skin to heal for one week and then restart the salicylic acid. Continue using the acid and paring down the softened skin until your next freeze treatment. Most viral warts will need between 1 and 3 freeze cycles.

Do you treat children?

Young children are very prone to warts and verrucas.  They do tend to clear up quicker on children than they do adults. We recognise young children can find warts and verrucas embarrassing. However, we only treat over 10s. We do this because the treatment can be very uncomfortable. To an older child or adult this is bearable pain, however, in our experience young children do not cope well with this pain.

The best treatment for under 10s is the continued application of Salicylic acid.

How much does treatment cost?

£145 for the first freeze plus £6 per additional freeze in the same session. Please book a 'pre-operative appointment'. The fee for this appointment of £95 will be deducted from the total fee for the procedure.
